From Garage Startup to National IT Partner

In the late ’90s, our founder Rich Hervig was deep in the trenches of the telephone and office communications industry, installing phone and data systems for growing businesses. As computers began reshaping the workplace, Rich expanded into installations and tech consulting—helping business owners embrace the digital future.

Recognizing the explosive potential of IT, Rich launched Southern Support, later renamed Brightside, with a mission to help people harness the power of connected networks. Working out of his garage, he put in 16-hour days, six days a week, building trust and delivering results. Many of those early clients are still with us today; a testament to the relationships he forged.

As demand grew, Rich brought his brothers Keith and Blane onboard, and Brightside evolved from a scrappy startup into a full-service IT powerhouse. Over the past two decades, we’ve expanded into voice, print, cloud services, cybersecurity, AI, and automation; boosting the efficiency and capabilities of every client we serve.

Since 2004, we’ve outgrown the garage and now operate from our headquarters in Buford, Georgia. Our reach spans coast to coast, with a strong presence throughout the Southeast. We’re especially trusted in the medical IT space, and we proudly support small-to-medium businesses in law, finance, construction, manufacturing, and municipal services.

Our fleet of Brightside vehicles ensures we’re onsite fast—within hours, not days—because responsive support is part of who we are.
